SonRise Horses
Many of the horses helped by SonRise are rescued from neglect
or abuse. Others are offered as in-kind donations to help support the SonRise
Foundation.

Physical needs
All horses that come to SonRise are first evaluated for proper
health, including, as needed, the attention of a veterinarian, equine dentist,
and qualified farrier to make them comfortable and ensure that there are no
medical issues.
Our equine partners play an essential role in the success of
the program, and making sure that they receive the best quality care is of the
highest importance to us.
Farrier Services
Rich Affonso takes excellent care of our horse's feet.
Rich is one of the top in his field and we are fortunate to have his services.
Rich is available by email at:
richaffonso@hotmail.com
Veterinarian Services
The SonRise horses receive the best of preventative and
emergency care from Dr. Kristen Dietrich and Dr. Cory Soltau.
Emotional testing
Once their physical needs have been comfortably and suitably
addressed, they are given emotional testing by the staff and staff consultants
to determine their basic temperament,
their level of training, their willingness to work with children, and their
acceptance of animals on the ranch.
Qualified horses
Horses that pass the emotional testing join the Participant
team and begin specialized training designed to enhance their suitability for
the SonRise program.
Unqualified horses
Horses that do not pass the testing are moved onto our
Performance and Adoption team. With gentle understanding and knowledgeable
handling, the skills and talents of horses on this team are improved.
When a Performance and Adoption team horse is ready, it is
offered for long term adoption. Any adoption fees that are collected are used to
help support SonRise.
